D Rocket Oval V3 Bolt-Action Pen - Limited Production Prototype Preorder

The Oval is returning.

The D Rocket Oval V3 begins with the original Oval V1—the design that introduced D Rocket to hundreds of Kickstarter supporters—and rebuilds it using everything I have learned through years of designing and manufacturing precision EDC products.

Traditional bolt-action pens often have a protruding bolt that can catch on a pocket, shirt, or bag. I designed the Oval’s distinctive body to solve that problem. Its subtle oval profile allows the bolt to sit streamlined with the pen body when retracted, creating a clean, unobtrusive silhouette that is comfortable in the hand and unmistakably D Rocket.

The original Oval Kickstarter was supported by 280 backers who pledged more than $40,000 to help bring the design to life. The Oval V3 honors that original design while improving its machining, fit, finish, presentation, and overall execution.

The Production Prototype Run

This preorder is for a limited production prototype run of the Oval V3.

The titanium version is already in production. Once I have a reliable count for the additional materials, production prototypes will also be created in Ultem and select exotic metals.

The available handle materials are planned to include:

• Titanium
• Ultem
• Zirconium
• Timascus
• Mokumegane

Quantities will be limited, particularly for the exotic-material versions.

These production prototypes will allow me to verify the final machining, tolerances, finishes, material combinations, and overall execution before moving into a larger Kickstarter production run.

A More Stable Manufacturing Partner

One of the most important parts of bringing back the Oval was finding the right manufacturing partner.

The new Oval V3 is being produced by a larger and more stable machine shop with the equipment, experience, and production capacity necessary to execute this design properly. I have already reviewed their work, and the quality has been stellar.

This is not simply a concept waiting for funding. The titanium prototype run has already begun.

Completing an Unfinished Journey

The Oval V3 will also be used to fulfill the remaining commitments to supporters of a later Kickstarter project whose original production manufacturer closed during COVID.

Those supporters have not been forgotten.

Moving the design to this new manufacturing partner gives me a solid path toward completing those commitments while creating the strongest version of the Oval Pen to date.

What Comes Next

This limited preorder will be followed by a larger Kickstarter campaign for the full Oval V3 production run.

Preorder customers will be among the first to receive access to the new design and help determine which materials and configurations move forward.
